My own leadership journey began back in the 1990s along with Britpop, Dolly the sheep and the Hubble telescope. I have led customer service and support teams for over three decades and paired this with a ridiculous amount of reading, listening, watching, experimenting, failing, and trying again.
My career has been modest… some might suggest reasonable, although certainly hamstrung by a lack of ambition and nagging doubt that I should be doing something else.
The concept of deliberate leadership came to me on a coach on the way back from a glamorous holiday. I had received a great deal of positive feedback about my leadership approach but knew very well it was not genetic, despite my obvious physical gifts. I committed to documenting the methodology in hope that it could help provide better employee experiences.
That was about a decade ago, and once I make my mind up, it’s just a matter of years before something happens… or I forget.
